Quick note that the tile floors are completely finished. Baseboards need to be installed, but those aren't really part of the floor, are they?The water issue seems to have a solution, but it involves a lot of excavating and then pouring of new concrete to get what seepage we have to drain AWAY from the house. Yesterday DK and I laid the cement backerboard on the floor of the bathroom and the mudroom. Actually, I shouldn't say DK and I. DK laid the backerboard while I supervised (and measured the cuts). The painters have been here for the past week, and have one coat of paint on the exterior. The final trim will be white, with dark green doors. The green turned out to be a bit more 'ice cream mint-y' than we wanted, but it's not bad. The trim and dark doors will balance. The windows are on the boat and will arrive on Oahu next week. So we're thinking that the siding and window installation will happen the week of April 28. Then the drywall goes on!We resolved the burst pipe issue with the roofer -- they deducted the cost of painting the ceiling and refinishing half the floor from our invoice. Sometime between when the solar panel was removed from the roof and when it was reinstalled, one of the water pipes got bent and had a hole put in it. Source unknown (but likely). ...and cut once. Right? Our architect assumed our existing house had 8' ceilings. Seems like a logical assumption, but as it turns out we have 8'6" ceilings. So they would have started framing the second floor yesterday, but they didn't have the right length wood. We just left the mortgage broker's after signing many forms entitling us to a huge line of credit to get this project really started. Here's hoping that we only need to use about 75% of it, as we had originally estimated!

On Sunday, Aug 5, we set out for a nice stroll along Wiliwilinui Ridge to find a cache 1.3 miles down the trail.But look what happens when you see the call of the trail and just can't stop. You bribe the kids with 'whatever you want for lunch' and turn the stroll into a [slow] 4 hour hike.It was an awesome day.
